About BCU.

  • What is BCU Risk Advisors?

BCU is an independent private client insurance advisory firm. We advise successful families and the wealth professionals who guide them on every category of personal risk: homes, liability, collections, vehicles, watercraft, cyber, and the household risk picture as a whole. We have done that work for more than thirty years.

  • Who does BCU work with?

Two audiences. The first is successful families whose lives have grown past what a standard broker can handle. The second is the family offices, wealth advisors, RIAs, and estate attorneys who guide those families. The engagement looks the same in both directions: one coordinated program, one point of contact, one advisor who knows the whole picture.

  • Is BCU owned by a carrier or a bank?

No. BCU is independent. We are not owned by a carrier, a bank, or a private equity rollup. That structure matters because it removes the conflicts that come with captive ownership. Recommendations serve the client because nothing else gets in the way.

  • How long has BCU been doing this?

More than thirty years. Three decades is not a marketing line. It is a track record built one family, one estate, and one claim at a time. Most BCU relationships span generations of the same household.

  • Where does BCU operate?

Across the country and around the globe. BCU advises clients in all fifty states through regional advisors who know local markets and local carriers. Personal risk is regional in places, global in others, and BCU is built for both.

Working With BCU.

  • How do I start a conversation with BCU?

Send us your current policies and the form on the contact page, or call the office directly. A BCU advisor will respond within one business day to schedule a confidential conversation. There is no cost for the initial review.

  • What does the first conversation look like?

It is a conversation, not a sales call. We ask about your situation, the homes and assets in the picture, the carriers you currently use, and what has changed recently. We listen. Then we tell you honestly whether BCU is the right fit and what working together would look like.

  • What does it cost to work with BCU?

The initial consultation and the policy review are at no cost to you. Once BCU places coverage, the firm is paid by the carrier through standard commissions on the policies, the same way every insurance broker is paid. There is no separate retainer or fee for the advice, the coordination, the advocacy, or the claims work. The policy pays for the firm.

  • Why is BCU not the cheapest option?

Because cheap insurance usually means there is no one on the other end of the phone when something goes wrong. BCU competes on quality, service, and specialty expertise rather than on price. The number on the policy buys the advisor, the advocacy, the coordination, the discretion, and the long relationship. That is the deal.

  • Does BCU work with the carriers I already have?

Often, yes. BCU is appointed with the major private client carriers and many specialty carriers. Where your existing coverage is sound and the carrier fits the program, we keep it in place. Where it is not, we move it. The decision is driven by what serves the client, not by which carrier pays the highest commission.

Coverage & Programs.

  • What does a BCU program actually cover?

Everything that lives on the personal side of the balance sheet. Homes, liability and excess, collections, fine art, jewelry, collector and luxury vehicles, yachts and watercraft, cyber and personal security, family office and household risk, private client commercial, land and ranch property, and the lifestyle and emerging risks that come with how successful families live today.

  • What is a coordinated program and why does it matter?

Most successful families have policies from five or six different places, written by different carriers, on different terms, with different deductibles. A coordinated program brings all of it under one review. We see the gaps between policies, the overlaps that cost money, and the places where coverage stops short. Then we build a single structure that treats the household as a whole rather than as a stack of unrelated policies.

  • Does BCU only handle high value home insurance?

No. The home is often the entry point because that is where most families first feel the limits of standard coverage. The work expands from there into every other category of personal risk. Most clients eventually have BCU advising on multiple practice groups.

  • Can BCU cover homes outside the United States?

Yes. BCU advises on residences across all fifty states and around the globe. International property requires specialist carriers and structures, and the BCU team works regularly with the carriers that operate in those markets.

  • What if my current carrier is non-renewing my policy?

Call us. Non-renewals in catastrophe-exposed markets, particularly wildfire and coastal regions, have become routine. BCU has placement options across the specialty carrier market and can usually identify a path forward, including coverage layered across multiple carriers when no single carrier will write the full risk.

  • Does BCU advise on cyber and personal security risk?

Yes. Cyber and personal security is one of BCU’s ten practice groups. Coverage and counsel address ransomware, social engineering fraud, family office network exposure, executive personal security, and the reputational exposures that come with public profile.

Claims & Service.

  • What happens when I file a claim with BCU?

BCU sits on your side of the table. We open the claim with the carrier, coordinate the adjusters and any specialists involved, document the loss, and advocate for the outcome the policy was written to deliver. You are not left to negotiate with the carrier on your own.

  • How fast does BCU respond?

A BCU advisor responds to every inquiry within one business day. For an active claim or a loss in progress, we are reachable directly through the advisor on your account.

  • What is concierge disaster remediation?

When a major loss happens, the work goes well past filing the claim. There are restoration vendors to coordinate, temporary housing to arrange, valuables to inventory, and decisions to make about reconstruction. BCU handles that coordination as part of the relationship rather than as a separate service.

  • Will BCU advocate for me with the carrier?

Yes. That is what an advisor is supposed to do. When a coverage question or a claim outcome is unclear, BCU represents the client to the carrier, not the other way around. The relationship with the carrier is a working relationship, but the advocacy goes to the client every time.

  • How often does BCU review my coverage?

Annually at minimum, and more often when something in your life changes. A new property, a renovation, a new vehicle, a marriage, a board appointment, or a change in residence is reason enough for a mid-year review. The point of the program is to stay current with the life it covers.

For Wealth Advisors.

  • Why would a wealth advisor refer a client to BCU?

Because personal risk has grown into a category most wealth firms do not staff for, and a misstep on the personal side of the balance sheet undoes good work on the financial side. BCU is the specialist counterpart that handles the personal risk picture so the advisor does not have to.

  • Will BCU try to sell my client other services?

No. BCU advises on personal risk and personal insurance. We do not manage investments. We do not do tax or legal work. We do not compete with the advisor on anything outside our category. That is not a posture, it is the scope of the firm.

  • How does BCU coordinate with my firm?

However your firm wants. BCU can report to the advisor, to the family office staff, to the client directly, or to all three. The structure is agreed at the start of the engagement and adjusted as the relationship develops.

  • Does BCU work with family offices?

Yes. Family Office & Household Risk is one of BCU’s ten practice groups. We work regularly with single-family offices, multi-family offices, and the CFOs, controllers, and administrators who run them. BCU is the insurance counterpart to the family office finance team.

  • What does the referral process look like?

The lightest possible. Use the contact form, note that you are an advisor referring a client, and a BCU advisor will respond directly to you. We coordinate the introduction on whatever timeline works for the client and we keep you in the loop on whatever cadence you prefer.

Privacy & Discretion.

  • How does BCU handle my personal information?

With the same standard a fiduciary applies to financial information. Policy details, claim histories, asset inventories, and family circumstances stay inside the firm. Information is shared with carriers only to the extent the coverage requires, and only with the people on the carrier side who need it to underwrite or adjust.

  • Will my name appear on BCU’s website or marketing?

No. BCU does not name clients in case studies, testimonials, or marketing material without explicit written permission, and most clients prefer to remain unnamed. The default is privacy.

  • Who at BCU has access to my information?

The advisor on your account and the small service team that supports that advisor. Information is not shared across teams without a working reason.

  • Is my data shared with third parties?

Only the parties required to place and service the coverage: the carriers, the appraisers, the adjusters, and the specialists involved in a specific matter. BCU does not sell or share client data for marketing purposes, ever.
