A Note from BCU

The work that prevents the loss.

Most personal insurance conversations happen after something goes wrong. This book is about the conversations that happen before.

The Little Blue Book is the BCU network of vendors, specialists, and partners we have come to trust over three decades of advising families. We curate it ourselves. We update it as the market changes. We remove anyone who stops earning the listing.

Two tiers of listings appear in the pages that follow. The BCU Network tier marks firms we have a direct relationship with and can introduce you to personally. The recommended tier marks firms we are comfortable sending you toward, where the relationship is at the vendor level rather than the personal level.

Geographic reach is noted on every card. Where a carrier on your policy offers a parallel service, you will find a short note inside the relevant section. Your advisor can walk you through what is covered, what is included, and what is worth using.

Call your BCU advisor before engaging anyone in this book. Most introductions are warmer with us on the line.

Home Risk Mitigation & Prevention

Most property losses are preventable. Water damage, electrical fire, generator failure during a storm. Each has a vendor category dedicated to stopping it from happening in the first place.

This section covers seven categories: water mitigation, fire and electrical monitoring, healthy home environment, smart home systems, catastrophe mitigation organized by peril, backup power, and property stewardship.

Water Mitigation

Water damage is the single most frequent loss BCU handles. It is also the most preventable. The category breaks into three tiers: automatic shut-off devices that stop a leak, smart sensors that catch one early, and specialists who design the system around the home. Most clients have one of the three. The families who avoid the loss have all three.

Automatic Shut-Off Devices

Whole-home flow monitors that detect anomalies and stop the water at the main.

FLO BY MOEN

Whole-home automatic shut-off and flow monitoring. Installs on the main water line. Integrates with most home automation platforms.

Web: moen.com/flo

PHYN

Whole-home pressure-wave technology that identifies leaks by signature. Often the recommendation for older homes with complex plumbing.

Web: phyn.com

LEAKSMART

Modular shut-off and sensor system. The right answer for homes that need zone-level control rather than a single main shut-off.

Web: leaksmart.com

Smart Sensors

Point-of-failure sensors that alert before damage spreads. The right pairing for a property with a shut-off device already installed.

HONEYWELL LYRIC

Wi-Fi water leak and freeze detector. Reliable, well-priced, and integrates with most smart home platforms.

Web: honeywellhome.com

MOEN LEAK DETECTORS

Standalone sensors that pair with the Flo system or operate independently. Useful in basements, laundries, and behind appliances.

Web: moen.com

LEAKBOT

Single-point sensor that clips onto the main pipe and identifies leaks through temperature signatures. Often the device shipped through carrier loss-prevention programs.

Web: leakbot.io

BEAGLE SERVICES

Plumbing risk assessment, smart water installation, sump pump battery backup installation, and seismic shut-off installation. The first call we make when a client asks where to begin.

Contact: 844.823.2453

Web: beagleservices.com

Fire & Electrical Monitoring

Electrical fires are a leading cause of residential structure fires in high-value homes. The risk has little to do with construction quality and more to do with what is plugged in, how the panel is loaded, and how long the wiring has been in place. Three categories matter: electrical anomaly detection, smart smoke and heat detection, and lightning protection for properties in storm corridors.

Electrical Anomaly Detection

A white background with a few lines on it
TING BY WHISKER LABS

Whole-home electrical monitoring that detects arc faults and wiring failures before they become fires. Frequently offered as a covered benefit on private client policies. Worth asking your advisor whether your carrier includes it.

Web: tingfire.com

Healthy Home Environment

A newer category. The air, water, and light environment inside a home increasingly factors into both insurance underwriting and client well-being. Indoor air quality, water filtration, and circadian-aligned lighting are the three primary categories. Most clients do not know these services exist.

A white background with a few lines on it
NEST PROTECT

Smart smoke and carbon monoxide alarm that distinguishes between fire and burnt toast and sends mobile alerts when no one is home. Useful as a layer, not a replacement for hard-wired systems.

Web: store.google.com/product/nest_protect

A white background with a few lines on it
DELOS

Indoor environmental quality assessment and remediation. Air, water, light, and sound. Delos partners directly with Chubb to deliver private client assessments. Frequently the right call after a renovation, a new construction, or a major health event in the household.

Web: partners.delos.com/chubb

A black circle with a white border on a white background.
SMART HOUSE INTEGRATION

Full-home automation and monitoring integration. Audio, video, security, lighting, climate, and water all on one platform. Frequently the recommendation for new construction and major renovation projects.

Web: smarthouseintegration.com

Catastrophe Mitigation

The hardest part of insuring catastrophe-exposed property is not the policy. It is the work done before the storm, the fire, or the flood arrives.

BCU organizes this category by peril, because the vendors who handle wildfire have nothing in common with the vendors who handle flood. Three sub-categories follow: Wildfire, Wind and Storm, and Flood.

Wildfire

Defensible space, ember-resistant construction, and active suppression systems. Carriers in wildfire-exposed states increasingly require mitigation work before they will write or renew coverage.

ALL RISK SHIELD

Risk assessment, customized safety plans, and advanced fire detection and suppression systems for high-value homes. The firm we send clients to when standard smoke alarms are not enough.

Auto & Driver Risk Management

Auto exposure is the single largest source of personal liability claims for high-net-worth families. The vehicles get the attention. The drivers and the technology around the vehicles often do not. This section covers carrier telematics programs, driver safety training, distraction-management tools, and high-end rental coordination.

Carrier Telematics Programs

Telematics programs reward safer driving with premium credits, identify risky patterns before they become claims, and give parents visibility into how teenage drivers actually drive. Every carrier BCU works with offers some form of program. Coverage and benefits vary.

A white background with a few lines on it
Chubb Ridewell (Chubb)

Ask your BCU advisor which program is included in your current policy and whether you are receiving the full available credit.

Advanced Driver Training

Skill-based training that goes beyond what a state driver's license requires. Useful for teenage drivers, for clients with high-performance vehicles, and for any family that wants meaningful skill development rather than a checkbox class.

THE ACKERMAN GROUP

[BCU NETWORK · Global (Fort Lauderdale HQ)]

Crisis response, threat assessment, and kidnap-and-ransom support for international corporations, family offices, and high-net-worth individuals operating across borders. Two-thirds of Fortune 100 multinationals are clients.

Three offerings matter most for BCU families. Risknet® is the firm's daily-updated intelligence service covering terrorism, crime, and political stability across 100 countries — the right call before a trip to anywhere outside the typical Western Europe corridor. Crisis Management is the response capability activated for a kidnapping, extortion, or threat, anywhere in the world. Valuables & Collections

Appraisal, transport, and storage. Most clients call BCU before they know which kind of appraiser they need. That is why this section starts with a generalist — the appraiser we send clients to when the collection spans disciplines, when the family is just starting to take inventory, or when no one is sure where to begin. The discipline-specific specialists follow.

Appraisal — Generalist

The first call when a client has a collection that spans categories, an estate to inventory, or a question about something they cannot immediately classify. A senior generalist can route the work to the right specialist and handle most disciplines directly.

GARY PIATTONI

Lifestyle Concierge

A small section. Held separately from the rest of the book because these are not risk vendors. They are lifestyle support relationships worth listing because BCU clients ask about them frequently.

HOMETHRIVE

[BCU NETWORK · National]

Caregiver support and care coordination for families managing the most complicated parts of life — an aging parent, a complex diagnosis, a special-needs child, a partner navigating cancer, the logistics of settling an estate. Each member is paired with a credentialed Care Guide, an experienced social worker who handles the calls, the research, and the coordination that would otherwise fall to the family. The platform layers on 24/7 digital tools, vetted provider networks, Medicare and benefits navigation, and proactive guidance for what's coming next.

Most families discover Homethrive through an employer benefit or an insurance carrier program (Chubb personal insurance clients have it as a no-cost benefit). For families without that access, Homethrive offers a 30-minute consultation to scope direct enrollment. Either way, the value is the same: a single phone number that replaces the dozens of calls a caregiver would otherwise be making alone.

How to Use This Book

Call BCU first. The vendors in this book are accustomed to being introduced through BCU rather than approached cold. The introduction is warmer, the response time is faster, and we can coordinate the carrier on the same call.

This Little Blue Book lives at bcurisk.com/little-blue-book. We update it as the market changes, not on a set schedule. If you bookmark the page, you will always have the current edition.

If a vendor you have used and trust is missing from this book, tell us. The next edition is always under construction.
